My grandfather played the piano and he grew tomatoes, from seed, in his little greenhouse in the backyard.
He used to “explain” things to me by saying that a sore thumb is a sore thing but that a sore thing is not necessarily a sore thumb. At first it made no sense to me outside of the world of sore thumbs. Over time, I saw it as one of the smartest things…ever.
A beautiful day is a beautiful thing but a beautiful thing is not necessarily a beautiful day (although it is indeed beautiful).
A beautiful flower is a beautiful thing but a beautiful thing is not necessarily a beautiful flower (beautiful as the flower may be).
A beautiful face is a beautiful thing but a beautiful thing is not necessarily a beautiful face (with the only possible exception being your kid’s face(s), just saying).
My grandfather taught me to look past what had been decided; he taught me to see past other people’s conclusions and to see past sore thumbs. We never spoke about beautiful but I knew, in his eyes, I was.
Where are your eyes looking? What is your beautiful? We, here at ESMÉ, are in the beautiful business and if we can be a part of your beautiful, give us a call.
ESMÉ Beautiful. Your Kind of Beautiful.
